Antalyaspor's future direction will be decided at an extraordinary general assembly meeting scheduled for Thursday, 18 September. Called by club president Mustafa Ergün, the assembly will vote on the club's path forward as it competes in the TFF 1. Lig, choosing between short-term success and long-term sustainability.

The club began the 2026-2027 season in the second tier and currently sits 12th with 9 points from seven matches, recording three wins and four losses. Their form over the last five games reads WLWLL. Their most recent victory was a 2-1 away win against Ümraniyespor on 12 September. Their next league fixture is away to 9th-placed Muğlaspor on 6 December.

TWO COMPETING VISIONS

Two main presidential candidates have outlined distinct plans for the club's future ahead of the assembly. Incumbent president Mustafa Ergün, who dismissed head coach Bülent Korkmaz before calling the meeting, has campaigned on a promise to invest 15 million Euro from personal funds to secure an immediate return to the Süper Lig.

The opposing candidate rejects the notion of rapid promotion as unrealistic and risky due to a lack of financial guarantees. "Antalyaspor has no chance of paying its debts and getting out of this bottleneck in the short term," the candidate said, proposing instead a five-year development and restructuring plan. The first year focuses on financial discipline, cost control, building a young, infrastructure-supported squad, and prioritizing league survival.

DETAILS OF THE FIVE-YEAR PLAN

The second and third years would see increased infrastructure investment and more youth players integrated into the squad, aiming for mid-table finishes while operating within economic limits. By the third year, the goal is to build a modern, resilient, high-entertainment-value team and strengthen the corporate structure.

The fourth year targets reducing debt to sustainable levels, balancing income and expenses, and establishing a strong joint-stock company on solid foundations. The fifth and final year aims for promotion to the Süper Lig with solid economic and sporting foundations. The candidate pledged, "I will implement this plan for five years. I will announce my targets each year. I will be accountable each year."

The club is known to carry debt amounting to billions of Turkish Lira. Beyond potential revenue from converting a gas station land in Lara to residential use, no transparent or confirmed financing sources have been disclosed. Mustafa Ergün has not yet presented a concrete plan showing how to reduce debt, increase income, control expenses, or achieve sporting targets.

DECISION DAY

The 18 September assembly will not only elect a new president but also determine the club's roadmap for the next five years. It is emphasized that the central question for voters should be "What kind of Antalyaspor will you leave behind in five years?" rather than "Who will get us promoted this season?" The club possesses facilities, infrastructure, and a strong brand tied to the city of Antalya, holding emotional value for millions.
